A new milestone in energy storage deployment has been set in the UK, with Sungrow completing the commissioning of the Bramley 331MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in a record-breaking two weeks. The project, developed by BW ESS and featuring Sungrow’s advanced PowerTitan 2.0 technology, marks the fastest transition from grid energisation to commercial operation for a BESS project in both the UK and Europe.

Typically, energy storage projects face significant delays due to commissioning, compliance testing, and regulatory approvals. In contrast, the Bramley project was operational within just 14 days, a 72% efficiency gain over standard timelines. The achievement has been credited to Sungrow’s innovative system design and a dedicated team of industry specialists.

Innovative Design Cuts Deployment Time

At the heart of this rapid deployment is the PowerTitan 2.0 energy storage system, which features a streamlined AC-DC block design. Unlike conventional storage solutions that require separate power conversion systems (PCS) and battery cabinets to be assembled and commissioned on-site, the PowerTitan 2.0 arrives pre-installed and pre-commissioned.

The system undergoes rigorous grid simulation testing at the factory, ensuring it is fully adaptable to real-world conditions before reaching the site. This approach significantly reduces the time required for on-site installation, allowing for faster commissioning and grid integration.

Precision Execution and Expert Coordination

The Bramley BESS is a key asset for BW ESS, with a strict timeline for delivery. Sungrow assembled a team of experts spanning research and development, delivery, and field engineering to manage the project with precision.

As a result, the time from grid energisation to full commercial operation was reduced from the industry standard of approximately 50 working days to just two weeks. Ancillary service tests, a crucial requirement for grid compliance, were completed in just one and a half days—an unprecedented feat that allowed BW ESS to begin energy trading and grid service operations far ahead of schedule.

BW ESS CEO Erik Strømsø praised Sungrow’s performance, stating:

“In just two weeks, you accomplished the HOT commissioning, compliance testing, and ancillary service testing – an impressive feat. We thank you for your efforts and look forward to future collaborations.”

Setting a New Benchmark for the Industry

Sungrow’s success in delivering the Bramley project reflects its broader capabilities in energy storage deployment. With over 520 service centres worldwide and operations in more than 180 countries, the company offers round-the-clock technical support and end-to-end service solutions.

Drawing on 28 years of experience in renewable energy, Sungrow is helping to redefine industry standards by offering highly efficient energy storage solutions that accelerate the transition to a cleaner, more sustainable power grid.

The record-setting delivery of the Bramley 331MWh BESS demonstrates that with advanced technology and expert coordination, large-scale battery storage projects can be deployed significantly faster, providing crucial support to the UK’s renewable energy infrastructure.
